HISTORY

Quinton Tyres Ltd was incorporated on the 21st June 2004. Part of the Global Group of companies that was incorporated on 13 March 1995. Starting their journey from a 900 sq ft building within a scrap yard in Audenshaw which is just 3 miles from our current location.

Our journey has developed over the past 26 years starting with a first year turnover of only £260k and employing only 2 people.  At this time our core business was mainly from buying and selling truck casings to some small independent retread manufacturers as well as some of the world’s major retreaders, together with some wholesale supply activities.  We also identified the opportunity to diversify our activities to include the supply of new and remoulded truck tyres to local hauliers.

In May 2002 with a turnover now of over £2.4m, we moved into a new 10,000 sq ft building located in Dukinfield which had previously been used as a cooperage.  We continued to develop our business becoming one of Michelin Tyre plc preferred suppliers of casings for their retread plant in Stoke on Trent.  We were now supplying over 35% of all their requirements from casing dealers in the UK.  At the same time we were developing the truck contract business by introducing new strategies to manage all the tyre activity of the major blue chip fleet operators including the introduction of PPK contracts (pence per kilometre) and monthly budget accounts and data analysis to fleet operators such as NWF Group, Brenntag Ltd, Multi Server and Elite Transport to name but a few.

By June 2007 we were turning over £3.8m, which was due mainly to the increase in our casing business and truck fleet activities.  In addition, we were given the opportunity to develop and pioneer an innovative way to supply tyres and associated services to the bus industry.  To facilitate this operation we acquired an additional 4,500 sq ft warehouse and offices in Dukinfield.  This operation requires the tyre management services to be provided from a central hub, whereby complete wheel assemblies are collected from individual bus garages and transported to our premises in Dukinfield for inspection, service, repair and analysis reporting.  Subsequently the wheel assemblies are returned back to each location to be fitted to the relevant vehicles.  This process started as a pilot scheme with First Group Manchester with Quinton initially servicing 3 of their 5 bus locations in the Greater Manchester area which has a vehicle fleet strength of 360 buses.  Within a year we were allocated their other 2 locations which in total amounted to 750 buses under our management.

In 2009 due to further growth in all our business operations, we relocated our activities to our current premises being a modern 23,000 sq ft freehold property, also situated in Dukinfield.  Investment in purpose built racking for the storage of casings enabled us to quickly develop the volume of our casing activities which together with increases in our truck and bus tyre management operations enabled the business to continue to grow in all areas.  By December 2012 we had secured 12 bus contracts covering 48 locations throughout the North West, Merseyside, The Potteries and into Yorkshire.  This is a total vehicle base of 4,550 and equates to 27,300 running bus wheels.  Quality control is critical to the efficient operation of all activities and in this regard we are proud to have achieved ISO 9001 and 9014 certification which we believe reflects our determination to provide a quality service to all our customers and to create a rewarding working environment for our valued employees.
